About Us

Steve Sugar (MBA) is the President of The Game Group and the writer and teacher of learning activities and games.

Steve is an Adjunct Professor of Management at the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) and has served on the faculties of The John Hopkins University, the New York Institute of Technology and the University of Maryland University College (UMUC). 

Steve has presented workshops in the public and private sectors and at major international conferences, including TRAINING magazine, ASTD and ISPI.  He has presented faculty and staff development workshops for the University of Maryland University College (UMUC), Syracuse University, the USDA Graduate School and The Johns Hopkins University. 

Steve is the author or coauthor of five books:  Games That Teach (1998), Games That Teach Teams (2000), Primary Games (2002), Games That Boost Performance (2004) and Training Games (2006).

Other contributions include chapters and articles to several anthologies, including: The Pfeiffer Annuals (1998-2003), The Team and Organization Sourcebook (1999-2003), The ASTD Handbook of Instructional Technology (1993), The ASTD Handbook of Training Design and Delivery (2000), To Improve the Academy (1994), and the ASTD INFO-LINE, “More Great Games” (2000). 

Contracted as a games writer, Steve developed five instructional game systems — three published by HRD Press (1993-95), one game on faculty and classroom ethics (1993), and one on classroom review (2001). 

Three magazines — Personnel Journal, Training & Development, and TRAINING — interviewed and then published comments that Steve made about techniques of developing and conducting classroom games.
